NCEA Level 1 Food and Nutrition

Course Description

In this course we will cover theory and practice relating to: 

  • Food handling – how to store, prepare, cook and serve food so it is safe to eat. 
  • Basic nutrition – developing knowledge and understanding on what nutritious food choices look like so you are able to make informed choices for yourself and others. 
  • Interpreting nutrition information - so we can make nutritious food choices. 
  • Practical skills – developing your cooking skills, managing your work area safely and efficiently.



Recommended Prior Learning

Successful completion of the Year 9 or 10 Food and Nutrition course would be an advantage.

Pathway

There are many professional and tertiary opportunities that are available in this area of study. Studies in this area lead to further opportunities in the health sector and food industry e.g dietician, nutritionist, nursing, food safety officer, and hospitality.
