NCEA Level 2 Spanish

Course Description

What impact does speaking a second or third language have on your life? Why is what is normal for one person completely different to another, depending on where in the world they were born? Year 12 Spanish prepares you for communicating in Spanish about many of the differences in the world, such as the way that festivals are celebrated and how food takes on special meaning in many cultures.

As your knowledge of the language grows, so will your understanding of how the culture of Spanish-speaking countries makes daily living very different to that of New Zealand. Cultural competence is an important part of the Year 12 course, so experiencing the food, dance, music, festivals and film of Spanish-speaking countries is included in your studies this year. If you are thinking of going travelling later in life or working overseas, Spanish is the language that unlocks those opportunities in over 20 different countries in the world.

Recommended Prior Learning

A minimum of 14 credits in Level 1 Spanish or approval from the Languages Head of Department.

Pathway

Use the interpersonal skills that you will gain from speaking another language to develop your career as a doctor, counsellor, pilot, lawyer, diplomat, actor, teacher, journalist or technology designer.
