03GER

NCEA Level 3 German

Course Description

Freud, Beethoven, Nietzsche, Mozart. Any of these ring a bell?

It should because they’re world’s greatest thinkers, innovators, and leaders in our lifetime. Learning German might not turn you into a Mozart, however, you’ll be able to understand more of their creative and thinking process by learning the language at NCEA Level 3.

We will explore in-depth identity and culture through flavours and festivals in the German speaking world.

We will discuss current events and trends, and focus on environmental problems we face and what steps we can take to solve these serious issues.

In this course you will engage in sustained interaction and produce extended text in German. You will listen to, read and refer back to information, ideas, and opinions through increasingly complex and varied materials.

Through exploring the views of others, and sharing personal perspectives you will develop greater cognitive flexibility, better problem solving and higher order thinking skills.

Recommended Prior Learning

You will have at least 14 credits from Level 2 German and an interest in the course or approval from the Head of Department.

Pathway

Germany’s economic growth, innovation, and career opportunities are just some of the endless reasons to learn German. Whatever plans you may have for the future, knowledge of German will increase your options and can be vital to international work in the areas of science, engineering, business and tourism.
