NCEA Level 2 Te Reo Māori
Course Description
In this course, we will explore and critically discuss issues that have significantly impacted iwi Māori in a historical and contemporary context.
We will also explore Māori models of leadership and tauira will be encouraged to lead tikanga Maori including karakia, pōwhiri and pepeha. Kapa haka will continue to be an integral component of the course and all students will be expected to participate in school events that involve tikanga Māori such as Matariki, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, blessings and pōwhiri.
Through this course you will further develop the core skills in te reo Māori: listening, reading, presenting and communicating through speaking and writing.
You will explain and discuss your own ideas and opinions and may use te reo Māori creatively.
Recommended Prior Learning
A minimum of 14 credits from 01 Te Reo Māori or approval from the Head of Department

Knowledge and appreciation of Te Reo Māori, culture and values is highly recognised in a wide range of professions. This is because the government and private sectors know and understand the reciprocal benefits of partnering with Māori organisations. Learning Te Reo can lead to a career in law, policing, education, health, social practice, research, journalism and media, tourism and community development, to name but a few pathways
