Course Description

In this course you will develop:

  • Your critical and analytical thinking skills. 
  • A range of cooking and organisational skills. 
  • An understand the many factors that influence your food choices and therefore your health and the health of others.

We will explore three different topics, the first of which is sustainability, which includes an investigation into sustainable food practices. The second topic is health promotion strategies, where we will apply nutritional knowledge to develop skills and strategies to meet the needs of a variety of people with specific food needs. Thirdly, we will explore nutrition studies, where we will investigate the beliefs, attitudes and practices related to nutritional issues. There will be opportunities to develop your creative side and explore new foods


Recommended Prior Learning

You will have gained at least 14 credits in Level 1 Food & Nutrition, or will have an interview with the Teacher in Charge to determine the suitability of the course for your desired career pathway.

Pathway

There are many professional and tertiary opportunities that are available in this area of study. Studies in this area lead to further opportunities in the health sector and food industry e.g dietician, nutritionist, nursing, food safety officer, and hospitality.
