Year 10 Japanese

Course Description

At Year 10 Japanese you will become more confident with the Hiragana script and learn Katakana and some more Kanji.  

The course is focused on YOU! Would you like to be able to introduce yourself, your family and your friends? Would you like to talk about your daily life, your school, your hobbies and sparetime activities? Would you like to go shopping or talk about food in a restaurant with a Japanese friend? Then this course is for you.  In this full-year course you will learn how to understand, speak, read and write more Japanese. You will learn how to understand and construct simple texts using your knowledge of Japanese to describe aspects of your own background and immediate environment. 

We will cover Japanese phrases you might find handy if you were to go to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, now held in 2021 and how to cheer for the athletes at the Olympic Games.

This course prepares you for NCEA Level 1 Japanese.

COURSE LENGTH: Full Year

Pathway

Be able to watch anime ‘subbed, not dubbed’, improve your memory, expand your creativity, help your listening skills and increase your career options through learning Japanese. Learning Japanese also enables you to travel to or even study in Japan. It’s not unusual for someone to first learn Japanese and then move on to other East Asian Languages. It is great to know Japanese when thinking about a career in anything from a Psychologist, Librarian, Social Worker, Outdoor Recreation Instructor to Customs or Immigration officer, Flight Attendant, Teacher etc
