Year 10 Social Action
Course Description

In this course, students will learn about opportunities for social activism and the power of protest, focusing on how people can respond to social issues and be involved in movements with the goal of inspiring change.
Students will learn about both the historical context of social movements and investigate the goals and actions of contemporary protest movements.
Through case studies students will examine themes around identity, culture and rights.
Examples of social action movements covered include Black Lives Matter, Me Too campaign, Never Again (anti-gun protests in the USA) and the ‘I Welcome Pledge’
(increasing refugee numbers in NZ).
In the second half of the semester students will complete AS91042, Report on personal involvement in a Social Justice and Human Rights action (4 credits).
