NCEA Level 3 Food and Nutrition
Course Description
In this course you will develop
- Your critical and analytical thinking skills.
- A range of cooking and organisational skills.
- Your understanding of the many factors that influence your food choices and therefore your health, the health of others and the health of society
By studying food and nutrition you will apply nutrition knowledge to a variety of scenarios, these include: investigating how big business and politics influences our food environment; separating nutrition facts from fiction, and exploring new foods and how to be creative in the preparation of food.
Students will be able to have input into the topics that are studied.
Recommended Prior Learning
You will have gained at least 14 credits or more in Level 2 Food & Nutrition, or will have an interview with the Teacher in Charge to determine the suitability of the course for your desired career pathway.
Pathway
There are many professional and tertiary opportunities that are available in this area of study. Studies in this area lead to further opportunities in the health sector and food industry e.g dietician, nutritionist, nursing, food safety officer, and hospitality.
